GUIDELINES FOR PROJECT #1: THE SOLAR SYSTEM
Performance time limit is 5 minutes.
Each song, poem, or rap must describe AT LEAST FIVE FACTS ABOUT THE PLANET. These will include:
1) Distance from the sun. Where is it relative to the Earth and the other planets (Is it the closest planet to the sun? Is it the furthest away?)
2) How many moons does it have? (Earth has ONE moon, for example.)
3) What is the diameter? How much larger or smaller than Earth is it?
4) Where did its name come from? (For example, investigate the mythology behind a name like Neptune, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, or Mercury. You can wax poetic!)
5) Average surface temperature. How much hotter or colder is it than Earth and the other planets? What kind of fashion have you designed to deal with extreme hot or cold?
6) Time: How long is a day? How long is a year?
7) What is the atmosphere like? Has your body adapted in some way to breathe the air or do you wear an oxygen suit?
8) What is the surface like? If your planet is a gaseous outer planet, how would you and your friends get from one place to another?
Keep the language clean. Breaking this rule will result in a grade of “0%” for your ENTIRE group.
You can rap in any language (English and/or Spanish, for example) as long as the information is IMAGINATIVE and ACCURATE.
ALL group members must participate in some way during the performance.
ONE COPY OF LYRICS PER GROUP MUST BE TURNED IN TO ME ON FRIDAY BEFORE YOU PERFORM. All group members’ names should be listed on the upper right-hand corner of the page. If you plan to freestyle, please turn in the written factual information about your planet that you plan to include in your freestyle performance.
Your performance will be DIGITALLY VIDEOTAPED. We will view and critique our performances the following week. With your permission and your parents’ permission, the video may be posted on our science class website. District 3 Science Coordinator, Ron Hage, will be visiting our class to observe your performances also!
Good luck!
