8)    CONVERSION. The geographic coordinates of Pio Pico that you recorded are in a format called “decimal degrees” (which makes sense because there are decimal points in the numbers –-118.3166, 34.04655.) We will now CONVERT these numbers to a format called “Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds.”

b.    Scroll down to the pink box labeled “Convert Decimal Degrees to Degrees, Minutes, Seconds.” Enter your Latitude and Longitude that you found in (8i). It should look like this:

9)          Where are we in the SOLAR SYSTEM right now?? Visit this website: http://www.fourmilab.to/cgi-bin/uncgi/Solar/

10)     Scroll down beneath the image at the top of the screen. Fill in the following settings:

a.    TIME: NOW

b.    SHOW: IMAGES (not ICONS)

c.     DISPLAY: INNER SYSTEM

d.    SIZE: 400

e.    ORBITS: REAL

f.      LAT: 34 N

g.    LON: 118 W

h.    LEAVE ALL OF THE OTHER SETTING UNCHANGED.

i.       Now, CLICK the “UPDATE” button.

j.      What do you see? Print this page out (page ONE with the image only please) and write your name on it. Label Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars.

k.     Now change DISPLAY from INNER SYSTEM to FULL SYSTEM. Click “UPDATE” button again. What do you see? The orbits of two planets are crossing. The names of these planets are _______________ and _____________. (Do not print this image out. Just print the image of the “INNER SYSTEM”.)
